Academic Visits | “ZJU-LEEDS Centre for Business Research (ZJU-LEEDS CBR)” Annual Exchange Meeting Was Held in Leeds

On October 3rd, the exchange group of the joint center of the School of Management of the ZJU composed of several scholars such as SHOU Yongyi, GUO Bin, DU Jian and WU Dong, deeply visited and exchanged with the Leeds University Business School, held five talks with the full participation of Executive Director of the Leeds side Elko Klijin, and in the period, was warmly entertained by Dean of the Leeds University Business School Peter Moizer.

The exchange group first communicated and discussed with Director of the Leeds University Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Vince Dispenza, and Director Dispenza first introduced everyone to the basic situation, teaching models and cooperation models of the LEEDS’s EMBA program: its MSc International Business course was assessed by the Financial Times (FT) Masters in Management Rankings as the course with the first-ranked teaching in the whole United Kingdom (UK), and with the fourth-ranked teaching in the whole world in 2014. Professor SHOU Yongyi, as the Director of the ZJU MBA Center, also introduced to the situation of the MBA International Cooperation Project of the School of Management of the ZJU; during the communication, explored the possibility to cooperate with respect to international visiting learning and exchanges, cooperative teaching, student exchanges and others.

Subsequently, teachers of the Innovation Base deeply discussed with Former Executive Director of the “ZJU-LEEDS CBR” Associate Professor Hinrich Voss with respect to exchanges and the cooperation of scholars of both sides and models of cooperative cultivation of doctoral students, extended the original cooperation projects for master’s degree to the cooperative cultivation of doctoral students, annually selected 1-2 proper doctoral students to be involved in exchanges and joint cultivation in the LEEDS based on the establishment of a mechanism for assessing senior doctoral students for visiting learning. At the same time, it was clarified that scholars of both sides would annually periodically visit each other, and would jointly participate in important international conferences and session organization.

During the luncheon entertainment, Dean Peter Moizer highly affirmed the pragmatic and close cooperation relationship of the “ZJU-LEEDS CBR”, and made a prospect of the probability of more wide cooperation in the future.

In the afternoon, teachers of the base first exchanged with Head of the Leeds Innovation Centre of the Leeds University Business School Professor Krsto Pandza who introduced to several projects that were currently underway, such as the LEEDS’s innovative-research team’s high-tech industry transformation that was cooperatively researched with Ericsson, new-product developmental strategies in medicine and pharmacy industries, on-line training and others. Professor GUO Bin also introduced to progress of the research in Huawei’s practices of the ZJU team, the Ruihua Institute for Innovation Management, and explored the possibility of future cooperation.

Finally, the exchange group conducted a network video meeting with Head of the European Space Agency Business Incubation Center (ESA-BIC) in Dutch and his colleagues. In the meeting, we knew that ESA-BIC mainly helped enterprises to obtain technology transfer projects, realized specific landing, and helped these enterprises to research and develop practical business models. Currently, in total, ESA has established 12 incubation centers; the one in Noordwijk, the Netherlands is one of them; each incubation center is responsible for a certain number of business fields. ESA-BIC attached great importance to technology transfer work, cooperates with many universities, colleges and research institutions in the world. In the exchange, cooperation models were focused on and discussed such as E/MBA’s exchanges via study tours, science & technology park-incubation center docking, academic discussions and others.

 

The exchange arrangement in Leeds was very compact; based on the existing cooperation of the “ZJU-LEEDS CBR”, a number of new cooperation intentions were once again reached; and fruitful exchange results were achieved.

The ZJU-LEEDS Centre for Business Research (ZJU-LEEDS CBR) is a joint research institution between the School of Management, Zhejiang University and Leeds University Business School which conducts interdisciplinary research on entrepreneurship, innovation and international business in global economies.
