The Best Papers Award of “Forum on Case-based Qualitative Research in Business Administration in China (2016)” Went to Wu Xiaobo Team and Wei Jiang Team

The 2016 Forum on Case-based Qualitative Research in Business Administration in China with the theme of “The Theory Construction of Corporate Management under the New Normal” was grandly held in Beijing from November 11 to 13, 2016. The forum was jointly hosted by the School of Business at Renmin University of China and the Management World magazine.

This forum received over 250 case studies from the entire nation in total, among which 7 papers from the School of Management at Zhejiang University (1 formulated by Wu Xiaobo team, 3 by Wei Jiang team, 1 by Zhang Gang team and 1 by Zheng Gang team) were included into the paper collection of the forum after multi rounds of anonymous evaluations. Two papers respectively written by Professor Wu Xiaobo team and Professor Wei Jiang Team won the Best Papers Award of this forum.

The Forum on Case-based Qualitative Research in Business Administration was initiated in 2005. It has been dedicated to the in-depth exploration of informative practices regarding domestic corporate management and the construction of relevant localized theories with Chinese characteristics, as known as the mission of “Producing Insights into Enterprises and Forming Corresponding Theories”, on the foundation of case study. As it was the 10-year anniversary, the 2016 forum invited worldly top scholars in the area of case study to share their ideas, including Professor Kathleen M. Eisenhardt from Stanford University, Professor Jason D. Shaw, chair professor from School of Business Administration at Hong Kong Polytech University and Deputy Editor-in-chief of Academy of Management Journal. In addition, this banquet of knowledge attracted almost 600 domestic and international scholars in case research.

During the forum, Professor Kathleen M. Eisenhardt from Stanford University presented the awards for winners of the Best Papers Award. Associate Professor Wu Dong and PHD student Wang Shixiang from the School of Management at ZJU accepted the awards respectively on behalf of Professor Wu Xiaobo team and Professor Wei Jiang team.

 

Professor Wu Xiaobo team won their fourth Best Papers Award of this forum

Professor Wu Xiaobo has been devoting himself into establishing the unique theoretical system of innovation management that enjoys both Chinese features and global influence and recognition from academic and business circles, through his 20-year persistence in concluding principles of latecomer enterprises’ technical catch-up and, in special, transcendence. He has published various research papers about the innovation and catch-up theories of latecomer enterprises on the Management World, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Industry and Innovation and many other domestic prestigious journals and SSCI journals.

 

The awarded paper of Wu Xiaobo team this time was The Evolution and Cause of the Dual Learning Mode of Latecomer Enterprises in the Technical Catch-up written by Wu Xiaobo, Wu Dong, etc.

 

Professor Wei Jiang team won their third Best Papers Award of this forum

Professor Wei Jiang has been exploring the management practices of domestic enterprises and building management theories with Chinese characteristics through case studies for the past two decades. His widely spread research frame of “Observation-Insight-Emergence” keeps enlightening more and more young scholars in the academic community. The awarded paper of Wei Jiang team this time was From "Reaction" to "Proactive Interference": Wanxiang Group’s Strategic Choice of Dynamic Legitimacy in the United States written by Wei Jiang and his PHD student Wang Shixiang.

As a special guest of this forum, Professor Wei Jiang participated in the segment of “Dialogue Amongst Best Papers Award Winners” and shared generously and frankly his experiences on case studies, which received loud applause around the room.

 

The School of Management at Zhejiang University has, as a center of Chinese domestic management researches, repeatedly won the crown of the Best Papers in the forum over these years, and its results published on the Management World have contributed multiple Best Paper nominees for every year. Such achievements reveal not only the professors’ consistent advantages in the case study, but also the great attention and supports towards the corporate management researches from the School of Management at ZJU.
