Institute for Service Innovation

Head: WEI Jiang

Based upon the theories of industrial economy, service innovation, strategic management, regional innovation system, etc., the institute for service innovation aims at building a multi-level (e.g. firm level, sectoral level, regional level, national level and global level) research framework of service innovation so as to help firms and governments to make policies for future development. More specially, the institute emphasizes the innovation and strategy theories of knowledge intensive business services (KIBS), including innovation behaviors, innovation system, modern industrial system and service development, combination between modern service sector and manufacturing sector, and sustainable development strategy of service firms.

Institute for Intellectual Assets

Head: GU Xinjian

This institute makes use of the latest information technology (IT) to help enterprises establish and improve their strategies regarding knowledge and intellectual property management and standards setting, promote sustainable innovation, and enhance their innovation capability. It also studies the impact of IT on national knowledge, intellectual property and standard strategy as well as the role of IT in establishment of a highly ordered knowledge network, an efficient intellectual property evaluation mechanism and a standard setting system.

Institute for Innovation Policy

Head: HUANG Can

The institute focuses on the science, technology and innovation policies, and investigates how to enact effective policies with regard to R&D, finance, human resources, education, entrepreneurship, trade and industry development and so on, to promote innovation. It also researches how to evaluate innovation policy.

Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship

Head: ZHANG Gang Executive head: ZHENG Gang

This institute focuses on the academic research of technology entrepreneurship as well as entrepreneurial talent training based on the localized entrepreneurship practice. This institute has collaborative relations with STVP, SPRIE, US-ATMC of Stanford University, as well as Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. NIIM joined the MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program(REAP) as partnership in China since 2011,and launched the joint Venture lab @Silicon Valley with Ufrate Incubator in 2014, by which to accelerate entrepreneurship research and education of Zhejiang University with the leading partners.

Zhejiang University

Midea Group Joint Laboratory for Open Innovation

As the first university-industry joint laboratory for open innovation in China, the Laboratory is a carrier of cross-border strategic industry-university-research cooperation to implement the national innovation-driven development strategy and further promote the theoretical study and practical exploration of open innovation. Since May 2015, the Laboratory has launched many industry-university-research cooperation projects, including design of the online and offline Open Innovation Platform of Midea, the first Zhejiang University-Midea Maker Training Camp, the Zhejiang University-Midea “Gamma Ray” Innovation Design Competition of 2015, project road shows for the Open Innovation Platform of Midea, assistance programs for Unilever, “Plug and Play” and innovation and reform themed seminars of Midea and research institutes, thus making significant achievements in different stages.

Landray Joint Laboratory for Knowledge Management and Innovation

Shenzhen Landray Software Co., Ltd. is a domestic leading knowledge management solution provider and a new high-tech enterprise who specializes in providing knowledge management counseling, researching, developing and implementing software and providing the related technical services. As the first institute engaged in innovation management in China, the Research Center for Innovation Management and Sustainable Competitiveness of Zhejiang University is famous for its plentiful research achievements and extensive internationally collaborative networks. Innovation is achieved by accumulating and sharing knowledge.
Relying on the Joint Laboratory for Knowledge Management and Innovation established in December 2015, Zhejiang University has been cooperating with Landray to develop excellent courses and courseware, making studies on knowledge management and innovation practices, organizing China knowledge management summits and project cooperation to combine the advantages of industries, universities and research institutes and thus boost the study on China knowledge management and innovation. It also builds an enterprise interview and training platform for the students.
Through co-construction of the Joint Laboratory for Knowledge Management and Innovation, Zhejiang University and Landray, giant in the field of innovation and knowledge management respectively, would work together by drawing on their respective strengths to improve the level of theoretical studies on innovation and knowledge management, step up the effort of popularization and application and jointly boost the integration and development of innovation and knowledge management.

Cambridge University Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management

The Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management is co-founded by Research Institute for Innovation Management of Zhejiang University and the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) of Cambridge University. Our research fields are mainly focused on global manufacturing and innovation management, including the evolution and sustainable development of global manufacturing, FDI and technology transfer, transnational companies and made-in-China, industrial innovation and strategy, etc. The vision for this center is to become one of the leading platforms in the fields of global manufacturing and innovation management. The Joint Research Center makes contribution to jointly training academic talents and providing technological service.
As the result of close cooperation between Zhejiang University and Cambridge University, the Joint Research Center dedicates to promoting cooperation for great projects, mutual academic exchange, the exchange and communication of master and doctor students, organizing international conferences that both are interested in, building the connections between Chinese and U.K. industries and providing related training programs. The Joint Research Center will strive to make great contribution to the research and practice of global manufacturing and innovation management, and try to become a worldwide top-ranking academic institute in the future.

Joint Research Center for Business Research

The SOM-LUBS Centre for Business Research (SOM-LUBS CBR) is a joint research institution between Zhejiang University and University of Leeds which conducts interdisciplinary research on entrepreneurship, innovation and international business in global economies. Established in 2014, it is dedicated to the understanding of how business innovation, capabilities and structures vary and change within and across different countries and institutional contexts, with special emphasis on Chinese firms. Both schools enjoy strong academic credentials in international business, innovation, and entrepreneurship and close relationships with local businesses and government. Bringing together their expertise and know-how will open exciting opportunities for research, teaching, and impact. The Centre will strengthen this link academically and aspires to support the commercial link between both regions through its research. This Centre aims to be one of the leading centers for social science research on international business in China, and gain a growing global reputation.

Joint Research Center for Innovation Management and Sustainable Competitiveness

Haier Group and Zhejiang University have collaborated closely in talent training, technology and management consulting for many years, which is most remarkable in the close cooperation between RCID (Research Center for Innovation and Development) leaded by Professor Qingrui XU, and the R&D Center of Haier Group since early 1990s. In recent years, the R&D Center of Haier Group and RCID of Zhejiang University have conducted intensive cooperation in Total Innovation Management (TIM) theory and practice, construction of Enterprise Innovation System (EIS), advanced training for R&D managers, and so on.
This Joint Research Center will provide an important and effective research platform on the research of innovation management and sustainable competitiveness for both sides. Guided by the national strategy of improving indigenous innovation capability and constructing the innovative country, JRCIMSC and the strategic cooperation between Haier Group and Zhejiang University will have more practical significance.

Joint Research Center for Innovation Management and Sustainable Competitiveness

China International Marine Containers (Group) Ltd. (CIMC) is one of the earliest specialized container producers and Chinese-Foreign joint venture enterprises in China. Since 1996, CIMC has become the largest container manufacturer in the world, and its products are serving for the world's main sea-land logistics system all around north-America, Europe and Asia with more than 50% global market share. CIMC has become an excellent example of China's manufacturing.
CIMC and Zhejiang University have had close cooperative relations in recent years. Especially, The National Institute for Innovation Management (NIIM) of Zhejiang University has worked closely with Department of Technological Management of CIMC on establishment and implementation of company's technological innovation system, evaluation system for technological innovation performance, mechanism of technological learning, as well as engineer training on technological management.
This Joint Research Center will provide an efficient and powerful platform for further cooperation between both sides.

Zhejiang-Ruihua Institute for Innovation Management was founded on 1st July, 2014. It is committed to become an innovation management, strategic management, and information center on Huawei with international influence power. What’s more, it will become the most important academic and information communication platform of research on Huawei in China and abroad. With Huawei's history and experience as research s, the institute summarizes Huawei’s management success and potential problems to build Huawei theory with Chinese characteristics and global impacts.
Ruihua Institute comprises over 20 key members, including former executives from Huawei and scholars from school of management, Zhejiang University. There are four main functions of the institute: Huawei innovation management research base; global network hub of Huawei research; professional database of Huawei research; high-level forums on Huawei.

Center for Smart Freight Vehicle and Green Logistics

With the fast development of Chinese economy, road freight has played an essential role in China. It is important to integrate low carbon technologies and sustainable road freight research to improve green logistics. Since road freight involves a long list of industries and multiple disciplines such as science, technology and engineering, it calls for inter-disciplinary collaboration. The State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control (ASCL) at Jilin University and NIIM at Zhejiang University launched the Center for Smart Freight Vehicle and Green Logistics. The Center will also work with the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight Transport at the University of Cambridge, which is led by Professor David Cebon, for international research projects.

for SINO-US Social Governance Innovation

The Center for SINO-US Social Governance Innovation was established in August 2018 by the National Institute of Innovation Management (NIIM) of Zhejiang University and the US Asian Cultural Academy (UACA). The center has a dual head responsibility system. Each partner nominates one head. They are responsible for formulating the policy and development plan of the center. The deputy heads are responsible for the project operation and daily work of the center.
Taking full advantage of the resources and advantages of China and the United States, the Center is committed to making the Center a "unique" comparative research center of social governance between China and the United States and a think tank for both academic and policy research. It will provide timely, high-quality and valuable policy research reports for Chinese governments and institutions at all levels, help governments at all levels in their policy strategies, train high-level academic talents with cross-cultural backgrounds in various fields and provide public goods for the development of China's society.
